Ed was born and educated in Zimbabwe and completed his tertiary education at the Zimbabwe College of Art & Industrial Design. He settled in Hermanus in 2005 and is the co-owner of Lembu Gallery.

Ed works primarily in oils and is most well-known for his unique ‘ red elephants.’ Having spent many hours observing elephants in the wild – in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa – Ed’s attention to anatomical detail is meticulous but it is his use of vivid colours that makes his work so unusual and dramatic. The intense reds and deep purples of his canvases help focus the viewer’s attention on the shapes, contours, characteristics and energy of his subjects. His use of unorthodox colours is likewise reflected in his powerful human portraits. In complete contrast, using earth-toned oil pencils and working on textured rice paper, Ed also creates beautiful monotone wildlife studies.

Ed has participated in exhibitions in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, South Africa and the Seychelles. In 2010 he exhibited at the Riva D’Arno Gallery in Florence, Italy. Ed’s original works as well as prints on archival canvas can be seen at Lembu Gallery on Harbour Road as well in his studio at Forty x 40 Gallery in Warrington Lane, Hermanus.
